The story follows the life of an African American woman, Ava, and her two daughters, Jasmine and Maya. Ava is a single mother who has always struggled to make ends meet but is determined to provide her daughters with a better life. Jasmine is a high school student who is a star athlete and dreams of going to college on a sports scholarship. Maya is a talented artist who struggles with anxiety and depression.

One summer, Ava decides to take her daughters on a road trip to visit her hometown in the South. They end up getting lost and find themselves stranded on a small island off the coast. As they try to survive and find a way back to civilization, they are forced to confront their fears and the unresolved issues within their family.

Through their struggles, they learn the true meaning of strength, love, and resilience.
